With World Series ticket prices ascending beyond the responsible, I had planned to enjoy this season’s Fall Classic from the sports bars of Stamford or the comforts of my own couch.
Neither of which are particularly close to THE action!
But a flight to LA was a low enough tariff that when a friend offered tickets to game six, scheduled to be played tomorrow night in Dodger Stadium, I accepted. Hoping to see my home borough Yankees play a World Series game on the road in their opponent’s stadium.
Baseball’s bucket list.
But as I write this today I don’t know if I’ll catch live World Series action, unsure a game six will even be necessary. That less-than-ideal outcome made probable by Dodgers victories in each of the first three games.
Better to say that the Yankees lost those games, playing listless and error-filled baseball unbecoming an American League Champion. As I sat to watch game four it was only a lifetime of fandom which allowed any optimism that the Yankees could win four straight games and prevail in this World Series.
Because of the 24 World Series’ which began in this way 21 of them ended in a sweep.
Including a 1976 stain on Yankee competency.
But the Dodgers had to put their brooms back in the closet when a resurgent Yankee lineup routed the Dodgers, keeping alive my hopes of a trip to Chavez Ravine.
If the Yankees win game five Wednesday night I’ll be airborne Thursday morning, putting my faith and fate in the arm of Yankee’s starter Garrett Cole. Cole is no stranger to high leverage games allowing reasonable (ish) optimism that my friend’s generous gesture will not morph into a cruel tease!
Breaking News?
Twenty twenty-four has been a breakout year for paint news with the shuttering of Kelly-Moore, the bankruptcy of True Value and the sale of PPG’s architectural division each occurring this annum.
But just two weeks post announcement, it’s news of PPG which is on the front of most paint minds.
Since that announcement new followers have been arriving at a rate higher than the early Kelly-Moore days. They’re here for paint news and commentary, which I’ll get back to as soon as the World Series is over.
Because there’s more to be said about recent PPG actions.
As always I'm grateful for the attention and welcome #PPGNation to what goes on here each Thursday; a conversation about paint, and whatever else crosses my mind. I know you have choices when it comes to breaking paint news, and I think you’ve made the right one.
